Meet the Team

Dr Magdalyne Dura is currently the Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Benue State University, Makurdi and the Chairman, Benue state University Staff School Board. In addition to being a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, she is also the Deputy Dean of the Facult.,

She is  a committed Activists of especially women’s rights and served on several federal and state committees in the actualization of CEDAW in Nigeria. This has been the focus of her efforts in women rights, the belief that the domestication of CEDAW in Nigeria will be a catalyst for other gains.She is currently working on the Domestic Violence Bill in several Nigeria States

Dr Dura holds amongst other qualifications  Doctor of Laws (Ph.D), Masters of Laws (LLM), Barrister at Law (BL), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), Diploma in Law

Rommy Mom, President, Lawyers Alert, is a Lawyer and international development expert with 10 years of experience managing programs in the fields of good governance, civil society strengthening and socio-economic rights. He has worked closely with civil society organizations throughout Nigeria to build capacity, increase civic participation, develop advocacy capabilities, and provide civic and political education.  His experience includes needs assessments, program design and implementation, training, curriculum design, managing sub-grants to partner organizations, preparing and implementing monitoring and evaluation programs, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, reporting, financial management and staff management.

He has extensive experience managing networks and coalitions of civil society groups throughout Nigeria, providing capacity building, strategic direction and program management.

Prior to being President of Lawyers Alert, Mr Mom served as the Nigerian Country Director of an international capacity-building organization that works side by side with local communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations in areas such as the rights to participation and information, anti-discrimination, justice, food, water, health, education, and housing.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Mom also served as Chairman of BENGONET,  a network of local NGOs operating in Benue State.  In that role he was responsible for capacity building for civil society members of the network; coalition strengthening; and team building.

Mr. Mom has an L.L.B. from the University of Nigeria, BL from the Nigeria Law School, Masters in Development Studies from the Benue State University and also studied Eco-Socio Cultural Rights at the Geneva Academy of Human Rights.
